Lutherans still celebrate the Reformation on October 31 and still hold to the basic principles of theology and practice espoused by Luther, such as Sola Gratia, Sola Fide, Sola Scriptura:

  • We are saved by the grace of God alone -- not by anything we do;
  • Our salvation is through faith alone -- we only need to believe that our sins are forgiven for Christ's sake, who died to redeem us;
  • The Bible is the only norm of doctrine and life -- the only true standard by which teachings and doctrines are to be judged.

Christ the King is a Bible centered orthodox church.  What that means is our faith goes back to the very beginning of time when God created the heavens and earth.  From the first promise of a savior in Genesis 3:15 to the arrival of our Savior in the flesh in Luke 2 and His sacrifice on the cross in John 19 and His resurrection in Matthew 27, we trace our life as the people of God - Gathered together to Worship and Sent forth to Serve.

Our basic beliefs are summarized in a Small Catechism that includes our teachings on Communion, Baptism, the Lord's Prayer, the Apostles' Creed, Confession and Absolution and the Ten Commandments.

What Denomination do we belong to?  We don't really belong to a denomination.  Christ the King is part of a "synod" of churches that is located not only in the United States but around the globe.  The word synod means "walking together," and that is what we desire to do - walk together with other churches in what we believe (doctrine) and the way we do things (practice).   In a synod, the individual congregations decide what they believe and choose to link themselves to the other congregations through a common confession of faith and practice.

If you would like to know more about our "synod" - you can log in to the official website at http://www.lcms.org.  There's even a place where you can find answers to Frequently Asked Questions  http://www.lcms.org/pages/internal.asp?NavID=410 and lots of informational brochures and flyers about who we are and what we believe as a church body.
